Shivratri is about to come and everybody is excited to enjoy the flavour of this festival. Thandai is one of the commonly consumed drinks during this festival. This is a chilled almond-flavoured beverage and beneficial for health during high temperaturatured climate condition.
The Thandai is an authentic drink, which is highly recommended as per the Ayurveda. It offers myriads of health benefits as well as great taste. It can be prepared in so many ways, but an authentic way is very important to pack it with great taste:
Ingredients used in Thandai:
- Pistachios blanched and peeled 30
- Melon seeds (magaz) soaked 3 tablespoons
- Full Cream Milk 1 1/2 litres
- Almonds blanched and peeled 25
- Cashew nuts soaked 20
- Poppy seeds (khuskhus/posto) soaked 3 tablespoons
- Saffron (kesar) a few strands
- Sugar 1 1/2 cups
- Green cardamoms 8-10
- Rose petals 20-25
- Cinnamon 1 inch stick
- Black peppercorns 8-10
Step by step Process:
Prepare a paste of almonds, cashew nuts, pistachios, melon seeds and poppy seeds by adding a little milk to it.
Start heating milk, add sugar when it starts boiling, and simmer till the sugar cubes melt.
Now, the next step is to grind green cardamoms, dried rose petals, cinnamon, and black peppercorns to a fine powder.
Now, add the paste to the milk and mix it well. Simmer it well for almost 2-3 minutes.
At last, add the powdered masala to the milk and mix it well. Serve it chilled
Thandai can be served on all the special occasion, including Maha Shivratri and Holi. You must drink it once or twice a week during high temperature in summers.
